As a result of the internet, political polls have become an increasingly popular phenomenon. The very idea of the opinion poll actually originated in politics. In the 21st century, the subject matter of many popular polls has remained the same. Polls have been used to elucidate everything from George W. Bush's approval rating, to who should win the Presidency, to the support of bills such as the Patriot Act, to the public opinion of the War on Terror, even to who should win the Presidential primary. With the fast and free exchange of information via the internet, the subject matter of polls truly has no bounds; with the advent of websites, the power of creating polls and testing samples has been put in the hands of any person who can connect to the internet.
