In sports, polls not only enlighten fans about each others' favorite player or team; they also help choose teams to compete in championship games. The AP college football poll polls sports writers to determine who the majority of sports writers feel should be in the National Championship game, while the Coaches Poll serves the same purpose but in regards to the leagues coaches. The outcomes of the sports polls are then pooled together and factored into a calculation by which the two competing teams in the National Championship are chosen. As can be seen in sports, the value of polls extends much further than mere information gathering; rather, they help in making important decisions as well.
